They were printed between 1979 and 1992 by Hodder Headline Australia and have now been re-released by Simon & Schuster. The re-released sequence is at present available to purchase. Grug started his life at the top of a Burrawong tree. Akin to a small, striped haystack with feet and a nose, he is awestruck by the world surrounding him and fixes everyday troubles creatively and lacking fuss. When dancing orders are too complicated to work out, Grug devises his own boogie and calls it “The Grug”. Ted Prior : Thirty years ago I was living on a undersized farmhouse in northern New South Wales. I had just begun reading tales to my two very youthful family and thought I would have a go to create our own invented bush mammal and write a narrative about it. I scribbled around and devised Grug. Ted Prior previously worked as a police officer and teacher. He also worked in kid’s TV and animation. In 1979 he started his GRUG sequence of kids picture tales.Grug Collection
